About

I am a London based Artist whose work pays homage to those sights and sensations which surround me. I take inspiration from the history of Art, story telling, images of strong female characters, and in exploring the boundaries of gender and cultural identity. In expressing colour and narrative, I carefully craft and weave together images to produce a striking visual mixed media art form. Initially I primarily work in my sketchbook using paint and collage, drawing on imagery and connections to the past, whilst bringing my own painterly qualities and convictions into play. The process of creation owes as much to chance, improvisation, and an openness to outside source material. My use of digital and multi layered images from my travels, Art history, and other urban and everyday sources help me to create this fusion within my work. This process which evolves through drawings, paint and collage, is further digitally enhanced with surface layering techniques that can take months to complete. Each image creates a seductive life of its own, with its unique blend of traditional and contemporary media.

I have worked in education for the Arts in London for many years and I am now ready to present my own work through the medium of digital prints. Printed on the finest German etching paper which gives the artwork a handmade crafted feel. All works are limited edition giclée prints produced exclusively at Printspace in Shoreditch, East London, some are then hand finished with gold leaf, acrylic paint and diamond dust.

Currently I am interested in themes of guardianship, and the strength which can be developed and promoted within others. I draw from my extensive experience in teaching Art as a classroom practitioner, as well as my pastoral role for the welfare of others. I am testimony to my belief in life long education, and in continuing to develop and thrive in this ever changing world.

I have participated in Art Fairs in Chelsea and the Truman Brewery, Shoreditch, and shown at the Miami Biennale in 2019, and shown in Madrid, Lisbon and London in 2020. I am the winner of the Royal Arts prize for 2020, and I am looking forward to showing in London, Barcelona and LA in 2021.

I have previously taught Art for thirty years in a successful London state school and have run many art workshops both at home and abroad, including New York and Los Angeles.
